Minor Hand Surgery

We specialise in the management of minor orthopaedic hand problems such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Trigger finger.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is pressure on a nerve in your wrist. It causes tingling, numbness and pain in your hand and fingers. Treatment can include a steroid injection into your wrist to reduce the swelling and symptoms of CTS, but this is not a cure and you may need another injection.

If this does not work, you may be able to have surgery which is quick and can be done in a community based setting. This means you have a very quick recovery time and can resume your usual activities fairly quickly.

What is Trigger Finger?

Trigger finger is a condition where a finger or thumb gets stuck in a bent position and may suddenly "click" or snap straight. It happens when the tendon in the affected finger becomes inflamed and has difficulty gliding smoothly through its protective sheath. It can be caused by repetitive hand use, gripping activities, or underlying conditions like diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis. It’s more common in people aged 40–60.

A quick surgical procedure, under Local Anaesthetic, permanently resolves the problem by releasing the tight portion of the tendon sheath.
